Wirral Coastal Walk
DGB Solicitors are supporting a local charity that is close to Jo’s heart. On Sunday 23 May 2010, my husband Simon and I walked fifteen miles along the Wirral coast in record breaking temperatures. The walk started at Seacombe Ferry and ended at Thurstaston. Despite horrendous blisters (Simon) and sunburn through factor 50 
suncream (me), and with a few pit stops for a cuppa, we managed to complete the walk in about 5 and a half hours. We were thrilled to find that we had raised £357.50 which will make a real difference to our chosen charity, The Wirral Fund for Children with Special Needs.
The Wirral Fund for Children with Special Needs (formerly The Wirral Sick Children’s Fund) is very close to my heart as my mum was one of the founder members in 1986. She remained involved until her sudden death in 2004 and I have recently been co-opted on the board of Trustees. I am honoured to be part of such a worthy cause.
The Fund aims to improve the lives of special needs children living in the area by funding essential occupational therapy, skills enhancement, medical, care or developmental equipment and activities. 
In recent years the Fund has provided real practical help to families ranging from home improvements, short breaks, travel and training costs, specialist buggies, sleep support systems, special car seats, tricycles, computers, swings and trampolines. Amounts paid have varied from £50 to £900 depending on need.
The Coastal Walk was all the more special for me because knowing that I would be actively involved with the families that mange so well in what are often very difficult circumstances.
The before and after shots from the walk are attached which give a flavour of the wonderful atmosphere there was on the day.
The Wirral Fund for Children with Special Needs is the adopted charity for DGB Solicitors 2010/2011 and we will be involved in fundraising activities throughout the year – watch this space!
